Acupuncture for Degenerative Eye Conditions
Helping you move beyond symptom management to better health.
Safe, supportive care for people living with degenerative eye conditions.
Many people are told there is nothing more that can be done for their eyesight. That does not mean there are no supportive or restorative options available. Eye acupuncture is a specialised approach used alongside medical care to support circulation, neurovascular function and visual comfort. It is suitable for people with macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, and for some people who experience visual loss after eye surgery.
Who this treatment can help
This treatment is suitable for people with stable degenerative eye conditions including:
• Dry and wet macular degeneration
• Glaucoma
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Retinitis pigmentosa
• Post surgical visual loss
• Unexplained deterioration where medical treatment has reached its limit
No needles are placed in or near the eyeball. The points are on the body and face.
My background and why I offer this treatment
I have lived with diabetic retinopathy for more than thirty years. During the proliferative phase I experienced significant damage, including large haemorrhages in both eyes after a medically prescribed dose of aspirin following unrelated surgery. Laser treatment saved my sight but left scarring that reduced my vision. For many years there were no medical treatments available to improve what remained.
I travelled to Denmark to receive eye acupuncture in the clinic of John Boel Senior. My vision improved by 10 percent in one eye and 15 percent in the other. My acuity also improved. These changes made daily life easier. I later returned to train in this method so I could offer it to other people. I have also trained with Andy Rosenfarb in Amsterdam. His clinic in the United States specialises in the treatment of degenerative eye conditions.
My goal is not to replace ophthalmology. My goal is to offer a safe, supportive treatment that may help preserve or improve your remaining vision.
What you can expect
Most people feel reassured by a clear structure and a realistic plan.
The treatment begins with an intensive two week period. This allows us to stimulate visual pathways and circulation in a concentrated way. After this initial phase, follow up treatments depend on your response. For most people this is once a month. If there is a future decline, another one week intensive can be used to support the eyes again.
I do not offer guarantees. I offer a treatment that has helped many people and has the potential to help you.
Results vary and depend on age, general health, the type of eye condition present, and how advanced it is.
Examples of clinical outcomes
These examples represent what some people have experienced.
A 62 year old woman developed significant visual loss after cataract surgery and two follow up procedures. She had no health issues apart from this. After treatment she reported a 65 to 70 percent improvement in her eyesight. She gained four extra lines on the Snellen chart at her ophthalmologist appointment and a cyst previously seen on imaging resolved. Her reading acuity continues to improve.
A gentleman with glaucoma experienced a meaningful drop in eye pressure with treatment. His work requires precise vision and he was concerned about progression. Supporting pressure and acuity helped to stabilise his daily function and quality of life.
Macular degeneration often responds well to this approach. People frequently report clearer central vision, better colour contrast, and improved daily reading comfort.
How eye acupuncture can help
Degenerative eye conditions involve reduced circulation, inflammation, metabolic stress and strain on the neurovascular system of the retina. Eye acupuncture uses specific acupuncture points that influence micro circulation, retinal support pathways, and autonomic regulation. The intention is to stimulate the body’s natural mechanisms that protect and maintain visual tissue.
A calm physiology supports a calm mind. Many people feel more settled and less anxious when they understand they have an active role to play in their eye health.
Working safely with your medical team
This treatment is provided alongside standard medical care. You should continue to attend your ophthalmologist and optometrist appointments. I am happy to liaise with your ophthalmologist or GP if they wish to discuss your case or request information.
Is this suitable for you
This treatment is appropriate for people with a clear diagnosis, stable medical care, or a slow decline in function. It is also suitable for people who had a setback after eye surgery or who are awaiting treatment.
If you are unsure whether this is suitable, I can talk you through your options.
