Acupuncture for Pain, Stress, Gut Health, Fertility and Degenerative Eye Disease
At On the Pulse Clinic you receive evidence-informed acupuncture with a strong medical foundation. I work with adults of all ages, though most people who attend are over 50. I also support fertility and women’s health alongside conventional care.
Helping you move beyond symptom management to better health.
Why choose this clinic
I trained as a nurse before becoming an acupuncturist, so patient safety, clinical accuracy and clear communication guide every treatment. My work is shaped by continuous study and advanced mentorship, including:
• Internships in the busiest acupuncture clinic in the United States
• One to one training with Bob Doane in Medical Pulse Diagnosis
• Ongoing development in Tung, Balance Method, Distal Needling Acupuncture, Boel Method and Classical Chinese acupuncture
• Member of the Acupuncture Council of Ireland
• All treatments use sterile, single-use needles in a safe and regulated environment
These experiences allow me to treat both straightforward and more complex cases with confidence.
How acupuncture helps
Acupuncture influences pain signalling, circulation, muscle tension, the nervous system and inflammatory pathways. In practice this means people often experience improved mobility, steadier digestion, better sleep, lower stress and more manageable symptoms.
Conditions commonly treated
Pain
Pain takes many forms and acupuncture can be useful across a wide range.
• Musculoskeletal pain including back, neck, hip, knee and shoulder
• Post surgical pain and scarring, supporting healing and reducing tightness
• Pre joint replacement support, especially for people waiting on a list or choosing to wait longer
• Post joint replacement support, usually focused on mobility and circulation because pain after surgery is often minimal
• Neuropathic pain including pain after shingles
• Migraine and headache
• Pain or discomfort during cancer treatment
• Persistent pain after treatment has finished
If your condition is not listed, you are welcome to ask whether acupuncture is appropriate for you.
Stress and anxiety
Stress can show up before, during or after treatment procedures. Many people also experience ongoing stress or anxiety related to chronic disease. Acupuncture helps settle the nervous system so your physiology becomes calmer. A calmer physiology often leads to a calmer and more grounded mind.
Gut health and IBS
Acupuncture can support digestion, reduce abdominal discomfort and help settle gut motility. Research shows improvements in quality of life and symptom severity in IBS.
Fertility and women’s health
Support for natural conception, IVF and menstrual health. Treatments run alongside your medical plan.
Degenerative eye disease
Specialist care for macular degeneration, glaucoma and age-related eye changes. Treatments combine acupuncture and targeted herbal support.
How we work
Your first visit is up to 1 hour 30 minutes. This includes a full medical history, review of medications, pulse diagnosis and a detailed discussion of your goals. A personalised plan is created and your first treatment takes place during this appointment.
Follow up sessions are 45 minutes. Each session begins with a review of progress and feedback from your perspective. Point selection is based on anatomy, pulse diagnosis and how your symptoms respond over time.
What to expect
Pain conditions usually respond best to two to three sessions per week for the first month. After that people usually move to weekly visits, then fortnightly and finally occasional maintenance if needed.
You may feel a brief sensation when the needles are inserted, but this passes quickly. Treatments are kept comfortable through professional experience and awareness of what is tolerable for you. Many people fall asleep once the needles are in place.
Safety
Acupuncture is considered safe when performed by a trained professional. Needles are sterile and single-use. Treatments can be adapted for people with complex medical conditions, those on medication or those undergoing medical care.
